When living or staying abroad, needing medical treatment can be a scary thought. If you’re still getting used to a new healthcare system, and perhaps learning a new language, it’s good to know we’ve got your back.

This means that if you can't get the treatment you need locally in an emergency, we’ll organise for you to be taken to where you can. This could be in a nearby town or city, or in another country completely. We’ll also get you back to where you’re staying afterwards, no matter where that is.

Wherever you are, if you can’t get the treatment you need in your local hospital, you can be sure that we’ll be there when you need us. In an emergency, whether it’s a short drive or an international flight away, we’ll get you there quickly and safely. And don’t worry - getting you back is part of the deal too. Once you’re ready, we’ll get you back to more familiar surroundings, so you can focus on getting back to doing the things you love.
Depending on where you’re going, there can be a huge range in the cost of evacuation and repatriation. For example, one of the shorter journeys arranged by AXA, from Nice to Paris, cost €12,900. Further up the scale, to get a customer to Hong Kong, from Canada, it cost €228,000 – a serious amount to pay if you’re not insured. So we know how expensive it can be, which is why we don’t take this out of your overall benefit allowance.
